Time Notes

Overview

Nexus lets you attach notes to specific moments or intervals in your experiment timeline. Notes help you annotate important events, mark regions of interest in time, and add context for later review.

Timestamp Notes

A timestamp note marks a single point in time. Use these to flag discrete events — for example, the start of a heating ramp or the moment a phase transition occurs.

To create a timestamp note:

  1. Scrub the timeline to the desired moment
  2. Click the + button next to the green time cursor in the notes bar of the timeline
  3. Enter your note text in the dialog that appears
  4. Click Save (or press Ctrl+Enter)

The note appears as a marker on the timeline notes track.

Timespan Notes

A timespan note marks a range of time — a start and end point. Use these to highlight intervals such as a dwell period, a cooling phase, or an entire acquisition sequence.

To create a timespan note:

  1. Hold Shift and drag on the timeline to select a time range
  2. Click the + button that appears in the selection
  3. Enter your note text in the dialog that appears
  4. Click Save (or press Ctrl+Enter)

Timespan notes appear as colored bars on the timeline notes track. You can drag the start and end handles to adjust the range after creation.

Notes double as navigation bookmarks for your experiment:

  • Click a note marker or bar on the timeline to jump to that moment
  • Double-click a timespan note to zoom the timeline so the note’s time range fills the view

This makes it easy to revisit key moments — click a note and every panel updates to that point in time.

Notes in Exports

Notes also play a role when exporting. You can use timespan notes to define the time range for a video export, or use timestamp notes to tag specific frames for image export. See Exporting Videos and Images for more details.

The Notes Tab

The Notes tab in the left menu lists all notes in one chronological list, including notes you created in Nexus and notes imported from datasets (e.g. live notes recorded during an experiment).

From the Notes tab you can:

  • Edit a note’s text or color
  • Delete notes you no longer need
  • Filter which notes are shown using the Filter dropdown — for example, show only app notes or only imported live notes

Notes are saved as part of your project file.
